The Language of Roses - Purpose, Memory, and the Power of Sharing Wisdom
One of the greatest privileges of my work is listening to people share what matters most to them. For one gentleman, it was his garden - a space he had lovingly created for his late wife.
During lockdown, we spent hours among his roses. Each bloom held a story, a memory of shared years and mutual care. As he showed me how to tend to them, he stepped naturally into the role of teacher. In those moments, dementia wasn’t centre stage - his wisdom and love were.
Supporting him in that space reminded me how vital it is to preserve purpose and mastery, even as memory changes. When people are given space to share their passions, they reconnect not only with their past, but with who they still are.
For families: simple shared activities - like tending a garden, listening to music, or baking together - can restore confidence and joy. If you’d like ideas or guidance for bringing more connection into daily life, I can help. Learn more.
For care providers: I offer workshops and consultancy that focus on purpose, identity, and wellbeing for people living with dementia. Learn more.
